Archbishop’s Day 2026

The Sydney Anglican Schools Ministry Association (SASMA) held its annual Conference Day on Wednesday 19th August at The Kings School. A majority of our Anglican schools were represented. From Shellharbour Anglican College in the south to Barker College in the north, Arndell Anglican College in the west to St Catherines in the east. The conference began with a chapel service where Archbishop, Kanishka Raffel opened God’s Word from Matthew 14:22-36, urging school ministry leaders to remain steadfast in prayer and cultivate a deep dependence on Christ in their daily ministry. Singing throughout the service was led by the Roseville College chapel band, setting a joyful tone for the day. 

Rev. Dr. Andrew Spalding (Dean of Youth Works & Old Testament Lecturer) gave the keynote address on Proverbs 1-9, inviting us to see the depth of wisdom literature in engaging youth and deepening educational practices. After lunch there were bespoke workshops ranging in topics from ‘What is School Chaplaincy?’, How to partner well with local churches, Thinking Routines in Christian Studies and Developing mission to Junior School parents. 

School ministry continues to flourish as an increasingly popular ministry pathway, supported by expanding training and mentoring networks. The conference was a timely reminder of God’s faithfulness and a joyful opportunity to encourage one another in the vital work of sharing the gospel across Anglican schools.
